The 2010 Allen S. Meck and Robert V. Moss Awards for Excellence in Ministry
These awards honor the memory of Allan S. Meck ‘11,
president of the seminary, 1947-1957, and Robert V. Moss, Jr. '45,
president of the seminary, 1957-1969 .
The 2010 Faithfulness
in Ministry Awards were presented by the Alumni/ae
Council at the annual
Spring Alumni/ae Day
Banquet on May 14, to two
seminary alums who have made outstanding contributions
to ministering to military personnel and veterans.
The Robert V. Moss Award
for
Excellence in Specialized Ministry

Chaplain John
Gundlach, III, ’71, was
honored with the Robert V.
Moss Award for specialized ministry.
Having
served as both a
local church pastor and as a Chaplain
in the U.S. Navy for 27 years, John is currently Minister of Government
and Professional Chaplaincies for the
United Church of Christ.
John’s
long active duty service included time on bases
in the U.S. and overseas, and several
deployments on ships
at sea. He is a strong
proponent of care for service members, veterans, and
their families; and he is an active advocate for the
repeal of the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy. You may read an

John and
his wife Dianne reside in Sherrill’s
Ford, North Carolina.

Award
for
Excellence in Pastoral Ministry

Rev. Dr. Kim
Blocher, ’95, ’09 received the Allen S. Meck Award for excellence in
pastoral ministry for her
work in organizing her
congregation on behalf of veteran’s causes.
Rev. Blocher serves Zion UCC in
Arendtsville, PA. Kim has made veterans affairs and support an important part of
her ministry. She and her congregation participated in the 2009 Wounded
Warriors Friends of America Bike Ride, hosting over 300 riders on their
Washington to Gettysburg annual ride. She has also organized her
congregation to supply troops overseas with books and other items. She
has made numerous trips to visit active duty soldiers and vets at Walter
Reed Hospital. The Lancaster Theological Seminary community is proud to
recognize the tremendous contributions of these two outstanding alumna
and their ministries.
