Class of 2011 Notes

9/24/12 - On Friday, September 20, I was one of three recipients of the 2012 Agape Satyagraha Peacemaker Award at the 7th Annual Agape Satyagraha Dinner. The dinner and silent auction was held at the Best Western Premier in Harrisburg, PA. On the same evening Dauphin Commissioner George Hartwick presented me with a proclamation declaring September 21 as Dr. Lavette Paige Day! I then gave the city of Harrisburg a day off with pay. NOT! LOL. It was a wonderful evening!

11/28/12 - For the past year and a half I have been serving as the Lilly Resident Minister at Mayflower UCC in Minneapolis, MN and in-part working to energize a faith-based movement in response to climate change locally, statewide, and nationally (UCCers you'll be seeing a Carbon Neutral Church Buildings Resolution at the next General Synod). It has been awesome work and I have found it to be work that energizes the local church. So if you are looking for something to revitalize a congregation or your next big thing, check out connections between faith and sustainability. It is work that directly impacts so many spheres of life - economics, equity, education, employment, health - and, as a result, so many spheres of pastoral care. To my LTS UCC colleagues: I hope you are planning to jump on board with Mission 4/1 Earth (and go beyond it with long-term goals).

Here are two stories telling how we have been approaching climate change at Mayflower. I hope they are just a springboard for imagining the work our faith communities can accomplish:
