Dear Fellow Alumni/ae:
It is with decidedly mixed emotions that I share with you the news that the Williston Federated Church in Williston, Vermont, voted to call me as their new pastor. Williston Federated is a joint United Church of Christ / United Methodist Church congregation located just outside of Burlington, Vermont where my wife, Jackie, grew up and home to the University of Vermont, Champlain College, and St. Michael's College.
Jackie and I are both grieving leaving the seminary community and this setting that abounds with wonderful memories for us. But we both sense God’s call that it is time to move on to the next steps in God’s plan for our lives, and those steps are now taking us to Vermont.
It has been an absolute privilege to serve Lancaster Seminary as Director of Alumni/ae and Church Relations for the last nearly seven years. Working with and alongside the Alumni/ae Council—and Lancaster Seminary alumni/ae in general—has been a joy! I have seen the depth of devotion Lancaster Seminary alumni/ae display toward our alma mater—a devotion which I wholeheartedly share.
In addition to all of the other ways that it has served the church and the world, Lancaster Seminary has modeled the kind of respectful conversation that is so obviously absent in much of our culture. Time and time again, the Lancaster Seminary community has demonstrated how to dialogue across differences--even when those divergent perspectives are deeply held and strongly felt. As I have said often, the world needs MORE of what Lancaster Seminary offers. And though I am moving on, I am taking with me all that I have learned at this great institution and will continue to support and promote the seminary wherever I am.
My last day on the Seminary campus is expected to be October 13 and my first Sunday at Williston Federated Church will be October 29, Reformation Sunday. As we leave this sacred place, Jackie and I welcome your prayers—and we send you ours as well.
In a spirit of prayer,
Rev. Paul Eyer ‘06
Director of Alumni/ae and Church Relations
