Advent - Preparing the Way

During Advent – Sunday, November 27 to Saturday, December 24 – our seminary community is invited to join in daily prayer to prepare for the Feast of Christmas.

Advent reminds us of how much we are waiting on God to act in our world, to appear once again in our midst. Mary is a powerful image of Advent not only because she gave birth to Jesus, but also because she was a faithful daughter of Israel who was aware that the world was in desperate need of justice, mercy, and peace.

The world needed to be transformed by God. It continues to need transformation.

NOON COMMUNITY PRAYER

This Advent, our seminary community is invited to pray together daily at noon, wherever we are. Our prayer is not focused in a single location; you are welcome to gather with others, as you desire. Participation is completely voluntary.

On campus, the Lark Tower bell will ring at noon as a reminder. You may want to set your phone or computer to remind you to join in prayer each day.

THE MAGNIFICAT

Our common prayer text will be Luke 1, 46-55 (interpreted for us by Dr. Greg Carey), often called the Magnificat, which describes Mary’s visit to her expectant cousin, Elizabeth.
