Full-Time Community Engagement Librarian - Lancaster Seminary

Schaff Library at Lancaster Theological Seminary invites applications for a full-time position as Community Engagement Librarian.

Qualifications

We are looking for an energetic, creative, and personable librarian to deliver professional library services to a mixed population of students, faculty, alumni/ae, and the general public. This person will have the opportunity to develop programs and initiatives to promote a theological library collection preparing to celebrate its bicentennial.  The successful candidate will be service-oriented, hospitable, resourceful, a strong communicator, and collaborative. This exempt position involves working 37.5 hours per week and may include hours on Saturdays.

The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and ability required.

Prerequisite skills:

ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science; at least six months work or volunteer experience in a library; demonstrated organizational skills; above-average proficiency with computers and technology; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities; ability to maintain focus with frequent interruptions; careful attention to detail; strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; adept at working flexibly in a team environment; ability to interact positively with wide constituency; ability to work in a multicultural and diverse environment.

Desirable skills:
Advanced coursework in religious studies or theology; knowledge of or experience with church/denominational structures; knowledge of library and bibliographic metadata standards; experience developing and coordinating programming in a community setting; understanding of marketing, communications technologies, and social media; experience with rare books and archives; experience curating exhibits and/or library displays.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
• Provide and foster excellent library services to patrons;
• Plan, develop, execute, evaluate, and promote engaging library programs and exhibits;
• Promote the library’s collections and services through effective communications and marketing;
• Develop strong, positive relationships with community partners, alumni/ae, and donors;
• Cultivate hospitality and welcome in the library’s public spaces;
• Participate in a collegial team work environment and assist with overall library operation.


Secondary Job Functions:
• Participate in seminary committees as required;
• Attend library and seminary staff meetings;
• Participate in professional development activities;
• Other duties as assigned;
