WORKSHOPS

You’ll be able to pick 2 of the 3 workshops to attend.

The Word Embodied in Bricks and Mortar with Dr. Lee Barrett – Lark 202

Theological visions and spiritualities are communicated by the architectural spaces in which we live. We are embodied creatures and our bodies process messages from our physical environment. We will explore the range of religious messages that bricks and mortar, wood and glass can convey.

The Chapel Windows: What do you See? with Dr. Peter Schmiechen – Santee Chapel

To celebrate the role of the arts in worship, you are invited to look again at the chapel windows: what do you see? We will share our reactions regarding theme, subjects, detail, color, style, and general design. We might even ask what effect the windows have on worship! This workshop will also be held via Zoom during the 1:45 pm session. Available via Zoom.

Seeing the Divine through Icons with the Rev. Betty Snapp-Barrett – Lark 204

For many Christian traditions, experiences of the sacred have been nurtured by visual phenomena. For Eastern Orthodox churches, the use of icons is a primary catalyst for spiritual growth. We will consider the contemplation of icons as a form of prayer and experiment with the creation (or “writing”) of an icon with hands-on exercises.
