Register here to attend the online Baxter Forum on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 4:00pm ET. Retelling the Origin Story: The Power & Presence of the Afro-Christian Convention in the United Church of Christ.
Seeking dignity and justice in a racist context following the Civil War, Afro-Christian congregations in North Carolina and Virginia formed independent conferences within the Christian tradition that later gave birth to the Afro-Christian Convention in 1892. The work and witness of this powerful presence is an invaluable yet largely unacknowledged part of United Church of Christ history.
Join Dr. Julia Speller, Rev. Dr. Yvonne Delk, Rev. Vivian M. Lucas, and Rev. Brenda Billips Square as they discuss the Afro-Christian Convention as the fifth stream of the UCC and learn how its legacy, in both word and deed, continues to be a major force in our collective commitment to diversity, inclusion, dignity and equity for all.
