The contested subject of motherhood was prominent in the political rhetoric in the 2024 presidential race. From “childless cat ladies” to criticism of the democratic presidential frontrunner for not having biological children to promoting policies that would prioritize women of a certain socio-economic class who give birth to children, there was a fixation on motherhood. Lovelace will discuss the intersection of race, gender, class and citizenship and the politics of motherhood in the 2024 presidential election.
