Womanist scholar Dr. Vanessa Lovelace, associate dean and associate professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary, will give a presentation, “Still Womanist: Reading Biblical Texts Intersectionally,” on her womanist hermeneutical approach to interpreting biblical texts. The talk is part of Moravian University’s celebration of Women’s History Month.

Dr. Lovelace’s talk will be available live on Zoom and in person in the Saal at Moravian Seminary’s Bahnson Center on the Moravian University campus in Bethlehem, Pa.

Poet, author, and activist Alice Walker popularized the term womanist in her widely acclaimed collection of essays, In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens: Womanist Prose (1983). The term resonated with Black and other women of color in the community, academy, and church for whom the term feminist was inadequate for naming their multiple and simultaneous experiences of race, caste, sexuality, gender, and class discrimination.
