We invite the Lancaster community to join us for a screening of the film MILWAUKEE 53206. We hope you will join us for an enlightening and thought-provoking evening examining the impact of mass incarceration and reentry on communities, individuals, and families.
The film not only examines Milwaukee's ZIP code 53206, it also illuminates the story of people from across the United States who live with the daily affects of mass incarceration - including individuals and families here in Lancaster County.
On any given day, nearly 1,000 Lancastrians are incarcerated in Lancaster County Prison, and an additional 1,600 Lancaster County residents are incarcerated in state prisons across Pennsylvania.
Each year, 6,000 people are released from Lancaster County Prison, and an additional 700 people are released from Pennsylvania state prisons back to Lancaster County annually.
Approximately 10,000 Lancaster County residents are under supervision with Lancaster County Adult Probation/Parole each year.
The RMO for Returning Citizens (http://lancastercountyreentry.org/) has been working in Lancaster County for 13 years to address issues related to incarceration and reentry. They provide trauma-informed, holistic reentry planning and case management services, resources to meet immediate needs upon release (toiletries, bus passes, food, clothing), mentoring, and connections to addiction treatment, mental health services, housing, transportation, employment resources, and other essential services.
After the film, we will have a panel discussion with local returning citizens, RMO program participants, and RMO leaders, talking about our system of mass incarceration, the challenges of reentry, and the local supports, programs, and resources offered by the RMO for Returning Citizens that have helped returning citizens to navigate this challenging transition and overcome numerous barriers.
COST: Free - but we will be accepting voluntary donations at the door (cash or check) to support the local non-profit organization, RMO for Returning Citizens, Lancaster County’s prisoner reentry coalition
