Lancaster Theological Seminary will hold its 193rd Commencement on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Commencement day will begin at 8 a.m. with a Baccalaureate Worship Service in Santee Chapel on the Seminary campus. The Commencement Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, 1850 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster.
The Seminary will award eight Master of Divinity degrees, four Doctor of Ministry degrees, and three Master of Arts in Religion degrees. The Reverend Traci Blackmon will deliver the commencement address, “A Charge:Faithfulness Without Fanfare, Acts 1:15-26.” Rev. Blackmon is executive minister of Justice & Local Ministries for The United Church of Christ in Cleveland. She also serves as senior pastor of Christ the King United Church of Christ, Florissant, Missouri.
She is a prominent community leader, a gifted preacher, and a much-loved pastor and teacher. She rose to national prominence for her leadership in the aftermath of the killing of Michael Brown, Jr., in Ferguson, Missouri. Rev. Blackmon has received many awards including the White House President's Volunteer Service Award (during the Obama administration), the Rosa Parks Award from the NAACP, and the 2017 St. Louis Person of the Year for bearing witness and confronting hate and ignorance during last fall's demonstrations in Charlottesville.
