Statement after the Orlando massacre: "Lancaster Theological Seminary condemns the act of terrorism that left so many GLBT people and our allies dead or wounded in Orlando. We pray for the victims and the many family members who are shrouded in deep grief and bewilderment. We pray that God would change the hearts of all people of any faith or nation-- who hide their inhumanity with the cloak of religion.
"As an educational institution and a community of faith, Lancaster Seminary proclaims and celebrates the sacred worth of all people, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. In doing so we stand in resistance to all the forces of violence and division, all the movements of terrorism and bigotry, and the "gun lifestyle" that threatens to undo us.
"We believe that the God who loves us without measure calls us to see each human person as a beloved child of God. Let us honor the lives of those who were brutally murdered Sunday morning by working to build families, cities, congregations, and nations that promote the flourishing of every person."
- Dr. David M. Mellott, Dean of Lancaster Theological Seminary
