Former University President and United Church Homes CEO Join Seminary Board

Retired Millersville University President Dr. Francine G. McNairy-Nelson and Rev. Kenneth Daniel, president and CEO of United Church Homes joined the Lancaster Seminary Board of Trustees on April 28. Trustees also elected Brian R. Bodager, president and CEO of The Pension Boards of the United Church of Christ, Inc., as chair of the Board.

Dr. McNairy-Nelson served 10 years as the 13th president of Millersville University until her retirement in 2013. During her presidency, U.S. News and World Report ranked Millersville University as one of the nation’s top public institutions of higher learning. She led Millersville’s successful $88 million capital campaign. Upon her retirement, the University named its library in her honor. 

Dr. McNairy-Nelson is active in national, state, and local organizations including the Lancaster County Community Foundation and Project Forward Leap, both of which she serves a board member. Dr. McNairy-Nelson has PhD, MSW and BA degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She is an alumna of Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management. She resides in Lititz, Pa.

Rev. Daniel is president and Chief Executive Officer of United Church Homes, Marion, Ohio. UCH provides housing, health care, support services, and pastoral ministry to 4,300 seniors and people with disabilities in 69 communities in 14 states and two Native American Nations. UCH also is an accredited Clinical Pastoral Education Center.

Rev. Daniel chairs the board of the United Church of Christ Council of Health and Human Services, is vice chair of the board of Leading Age Ohio, and is a board member of the Ohio Conference of the UCC. He served as Interim President of Lancaster Theological Seminary during the academic year 2010-2011 prior to the election of Rev. Dr. Carol E. Lytch. Rev. Daniel has a Master of Public Administration from Marywood University, a Master of Pastoral Counseling from Moravian Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Kutztown University. He resides in Frederick, Maryland.

Brian R. Bodager, elected to serve as chair of the Lancaster Theological Seminary's Board of Trustees, is president and CEO of The Pension Boards-United Church of Christ, Inc., based in New York, NY. The UCC Pension Board, with net assets of more than $3 billion, provides benefit plans and ministerial assistance for more than 22,000 employees of the United Church of Christ.

He has JD and MBA degrees from Case Western Reserve University, and an undergraduate degree from Ohio’s Wittenberg University. He resides in New York.
