Lancaster Theological Seminary Director of United Methodist Studies Dr. Darryl W. Stephens is author of a new book exploring what it means to be an open and affirming congregation. Out of Exodus: A Journey of Open and Affirming Ministry tells the story of the Exodus "in parallel with testimonies, sermons, and personal reflections from a congregation in Lancaster, Pennsylvania." One of the co-authors is Lancaster Seminary alumna Rev. Andrea Brown, lead pastor of Grandview United Methodist Church. With an ecumenical perspective, Out of Exodus focuses not only on what the Bible teaches about our LGBTQIA+ family, it reveals that open and affirming ministry "is also about race relations, poverty, generational change, divorce, immigration, and any other human-created barrier to loving God and neighbor."
